OUR HISTORY
Established in Toronto in 1972, we are a non-profit organization with the following objectives:
- To provide a continuous link between past and present students of
- Vere Technical High School, Hayes, Clarendon, Jamaica
- To assist our high school in areas deemed necessary
- To participate and render assistance from time to time in worthwhile community projects
The ongoing support which we provide to our alma mater includes:
- Equipment and supplies to the school's Dental Health Programme
- Assistance to the school's Computer Science Centre
- An adopt-a-student programme to assist needy students with tuition fees and a breakfast programme
We also support local charities and provide monthly donations to the Hospital for Sick Kids, through its Children's Miracle Network programme.
IN 1995, we established the Marsha and Tamara Ottey Memorial Scholarship. Marsha and Tamara were slain on August 16, 1995, and symbolically the scholarship is worth $816.95*, which represents the month, day and the year when the girls were taken away from us. Details of the scholarship, which is awarded annually, is published in the local community newspapers and is also listed on our website.
