The Association: "LABOR OMNIA VINCIT"
- "Work Conquers All"
It was in the year 1988
that a few Ruseans got together to form what is now known as ROSA
Canada(Toronto Chapter) an acronym for Rusea's Old Students‘ Association.
The objective was and still is to help our alma mater in all ways
necessary, financially or otherwise.
The first elections were
held in October of 1988 with its first president being Alene Miller-Chen,
and Vice-President Colleen Mowatt. An executive of 13 was formed with
various committees designated to different areas. Over the past 13
years the Presidents have been: Lorna Lee-Thorpe; Olive Parkins-Smith;
and Dalton Forrester.
Our first proud contribution
to the school was equipment for the Chemistry Lab. Since then we have
donated: a piano; equipment for the vocational areas; contribution
to the building of a library; and a school bus.
For the past 6 years we
have participated in the students assistance programme which focuses
on providing school fees, lunch, travel expenses and school uniforms
to a large number of students. Our major fundraiser is usually held
in May of each year and we do have to thank the many supporters who
have stood by us for the past 13 years. For information call: 905-501-0974,

ROSA Canada is extremely
proud to be able to assist Rusea's High School in Lucea, Hanover,
Jamaica.
The School:
Martin Rusea, a French refugee,
in grateful recollection of the hospitality manifested toward him
in the colony, left by his will dated July 23, 1764 all his real and
personal estate for the establishment of Rusea's High School in the
Parish of Hanover.
In the year 1777, an act
was passed setling the trust and establishing an undenominational
school for boys and girls.
The curriculum included
Latin, Mathematics, History, Hygiene, Religious Knowledge, Geography
with the usual English and Commercial subjects and the pupils were
prepared for the Cambridge local examinations.
Rusea's currently does not
have a Web Site.
