"SIC LUCEAT LUX" - "Let
Your Light Shine" your light so shine
before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father
which is in heaven"
(Matthew 5:16)
This is the vision which
inspired the establishment of Manchester School in 1855... this is
the vision which has captured the imagination of thousands of young
minds in the ensuing years, impelling them to excel, leaving trails
of brilliance in their wake as they pass through the portals of this
institution.
Quote from Gerrard "Gerry"
McDaniel (1975-1982) Excerpt: The Lighthouse Manchester High Directory
of Alumni - 1992
Background
Manchester High School located in Mandeville, Jamaica W.I. was established
in 1855 from funding made available by the Vere Trust.
In 1856, the first Trustees
were appointed and the school was open at premises (the former location
of old Manchester Public Library) adjacent to the Parish Church in
Mandeville, the property was acquired and a school building was erected
in 1861. Up to 1921 only boys attended the school at the above location,
the girls campus was located in a separate building. The present site
at Perth Road was acquired from the Anglican Church.
Manchester High Past Students‘
Association (Toronto Chapter) was formed in 1992. A leadership team
was elected in April of 1993. The leadership and members are aware
that the needs of the school are not only financial and has aligned
their vision to focus on ways to assist with improving the quality
